SUMMARY OF ORDINANCE NO. 1215 AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF LOS BANOS AMENDING SECTIONS 2-1.302 AND 2-1.303 OF TITLE 2, CHAPTER 1, ARTICLE 3 OF THE LOS BANOS MUNICIPAL CODE TO INCREASE ELECTEDS' COMPENSATION On June 17, 2026 the Los Banos City Council introduced Ordinance No. 1215, which proposes to amend Sections 2-1.302 and 2-1.303 of Title 2, Chapter 1, Article 3 of the Los Banos Municipal Code relating to the electeds' compensation in the City of Los Banos. The amendment of Section 2-1.302 updates the City's official population from 29,139 (based on a 2003 State Department of Finance estimate) to 48,896 (based on the 2025 estimate). The Ordinance revises provisions governing compensation for City Council members and the Mayor to reflect eligibility under state law for cities with populations up to and including 50,000. Section 2-1.303 proposes each member of the City Council shall receive as salary the sum of $1,275.00 per month, as is permitted in Section 36516 of the Government Code for cities up to and including 50,000 population, which shall be payable at the same time and the same manner as the salaries are paid to other officers and employees of the City. The mayor shall receive a monthly salary of $1,500.00. The proposed ordinance provides that any changes to City Council compensation shall be governed by Government Code SS 36516.5 and will not take effect during a council member's term of office. Compensation adjustments may take effect for all members beginning with new terms, consistent with state law. The ordinance provides that any changes to compensation will become effective following the November 2026 General Election except the Mayoral salary takes effect 30 days after adoption of the ordinance.
